JD Power's Skewed Reports

So last week, JD Power and Associates came out with most dependable brand reports. You may have read a story about it in the paper or online. Today, on MSN's homepage they were highlighting the story. What is interesting is what they left out of the story.

"For the first time in 12 years, Lexus is no longer alone as the most dependable brand—for 2007 it shares that honor with Buick."

Excellent. It's great to see such a storied, although rather boring, American car company at the top. More importantly, sharing the top spot with Lexus, a very prestigious brand with a very prestigious price tag. But, read on...

"Buick and Lexus both had a score of just 145 problems per 100 vehicles. This compares to the industry average of 216 PP100. Lexus vehicles also ranked highest in more categories than any other vehicle this year. Top scoring Lexus vehicles included the GS 300/GS 430, Lexus LS 430, Lexus LX 470 and Lexus SC 430."

But what are the top scoring Buicks? Why don't they list them? Is MSN biased? No. Buick doesn't make them anymore. Peter D. and the boyzzz at AutoExtremist fill us in on the details from their "On The Table" article.

"The bad news? The two Buick vehicles that delivered the results - the Century and Regal - are no longer being built."

Interesting. The MSM has the perfect opportunity to bash one of their favorite punching bags, the American auto industry, and they drop the ball. If it looks like a fish, smells like a .... You know, it's fishy.

The Chinese Are Coming!!!

Not so fast. Really, don't go fast in their cars. Ever. You will most certainly die if you hit something.

Recently, AvtoRevu, a Russian "Car and Driver" if you will, funded independent crash test research on Chery's top selling sedan in Russia, the Amulet(pictured below). The crash test was a 64km(approximately 40mph) off set front crash test. On a scale of 0 to 16, the car earned a 1.7. Only one vehicle in the lab's 39 year existence fared poorer, a Russian built model that earned a 0 in 2001. According to the reveiw in AvtoRevu, the Amulet's front door sills "crumpled like newspaper" and "We have never seen such terrible deformation of a car's body." WSJ reports that AvtoRevu stated "...the test dummy became so entwined with the wreckage of the car that it had to be removed piece by piece."

Interesting. Chery, of course, claims the tests were funded by OAO Avtovaz, a Russian car manufacturer and Chery's largest competitor. According the to WSJ article, "Chery officials were present during the test, on April 27, but at the time they didn't cite any specific deficiencies in the procedure. A Chery representative said this was because they were there only as observers, and protocol precluded them from making comments." Furthermore, "The magazine, which paid the lab to conduct the test of the Amulet, rejected any claim of bias; it said the test was "200% independent," and says it has no affiliation with any manufacturer."

So Chery hired the commercial arm of the U.K. government's Vehicle Certification Agency to test the car at Chery's headquarters in Shanghai. The test was full frontal, not partial, ran at 56km, not 64km, the vehicle was equipped with an airbag and the crash barrier was less rigid. It passed. Shock!

I have an idea for the Chery execs, why not make a better car? A safer one perhaps? Your feeble attempt at a cover up is obvious, blatant, dangerous and irresponsible. The American public, nor our government, will never accept something as ridiculous as this. Good luck trying to make it in this market. As Peter D. might say, I think it's notgonnahappen.com.

In your defense, the Shenyang Brilliance Jinbei Automobile Co.'s Brilliance BS6 sedan, which was tested last month in Germany, was described as "catastrophic."

A "Bigger" Mini

I have to disagree, for once, with Peter DeLorenzo and the boyzzz at AutoExtremist.com.

In their August 1st online issue of "On The Table," they seem to like BMW's move in offering the new Mini Clubman model for the '08 model year. At 9.5" longer, offering two passenger side freestyle doors and a rear barn door tailgate, BMW, in my opinion, has forever tarnished an iconic vehicle.

Making a "bigger" Mini is the true definition of oxymoron, a word some might use to describe the executives behind the model at BMW. Here are the pics, you decide.

Too Many Topics, So Little Time

Wow. A LOT has happened in my absensce. A LOT. A LOT.

Many may be worried. Many are surely ill. Many may think that DCS has passed. Many may think I simply just do not care about the Cheddarsphere.

Let me assure all that I am alive and well. It may be said that, like a cockaroach, a nuclear blast cannot take me down. Well... since there haven't been any "Hiroshima" type scenarios in the Milwaukee area that I am aware of in the past 6 months, that statement may be a stretch. At the very least, the evil tobacco and less evil liquor/beer/moonshine/red meat executives have not been able to stop me. Like Rosie O'Donnell at an all you can eat buffet, I have been unstopable to my demons.

To those who think I do not care of the Cheddarsphere and local, national and global events, I scoff at thee.

You see, I have been laying in the weeds. The deep murky weeds of car sales and the Milwaukee night life. The weeds of politics, current events and diesel automobiles. The weeds. I have been gathering, observing, collecting and evaluating. I have been analyzing.

Not much has changed of my views. I still am the original Disgruntled(that's right, "Truck Driver," I know all about your plagirizing punk ass!!!). I have been on special assignment. I have been on the various CL R&R boards accross this fine country debunking the debunkers, ranting on the ranters, ripping the rippers and shining bright lights on the liars while serving big, creamy bowls of justice.

Stay tuned, my fine blogging friends and enemies. The real return of DCS is now. This is not a test. I will be posting weekly, if not daily, for your enlightenment and reading pleasures.

We probably all remember those annoying Chrysler ads depicting Dieter Zetsche as "Dr. Z." Well, I try not too, being one of the stupidest ad campaigns I had seen out of an auto manufacturer in awhile. But, we don't have to worry about that anymore. MSN confirms that today, Cerberus Capital Management purchased 80.1% of Chrysler for a mere $7.41 billion. Daimler will retain 19.9% of it's share in the company, greatly reducing the chance of Dr. Z ads(so there is still a chance).

Should be interesting to see what happens in the next 18 months.

Madison, WI.(AP) - Gov. Jim Doyle(D-Taxman) has proposed his latest tax increase/ban. In light of the effectiveness of proposed tax increases and public banning of cigarettes, Doyle has announced at least one of his several new ideas to curb dangerous and hazardous behavious.

As we all know, smoking is evil. Blogging, in some of it's purist forms, is equally as evil. Blogging is just as addictive and toxic to it's authors and readers as cigarettes to smokers and non smokers. Because of these detrimental health hazards, amongst other problems, a proposed tax on blogging as well as a proposed public blogging ban has been introduced in hopes of curbing it. A debate, curiously enough, spurred between experts in the blogosphere immediately following the proposal.

As developments occur, DCS will keep you updated. That is, of course, the ban/tax doesn't go into effect before I can.

On a side note, insiders have tipped us off to other bans/taxes that Doyle has in the works. Of a list of many, the following stood out:

Okay, so I am going to post some mindless gibberish just to appease Neo. Let's take a look at the New Years Resolutions of 2006:

1. Overeat - Did that. Check.

2. Exercise Never - Oh Yeah. Check.

3. Smoke Daily - Double yeah. Check.

4. Drink Often - Hell Yeah. Check.

It's funny how priorities change from year to year. Let's take a look at the New Years Resolutions for 2007, shall we?

1. Quit smoking - In the process, on the patch. I will keep you updated on the progress of this. Last year I wasn't so successful. This year, mitigating factors are driving me to achieve this goal.

2. Exercise 3 times a week. - In progress. This goes hand in hand with #1. If I can continue to quit smoking, I can continue to work out(and vice versa). You may catch me at the downtown Y. Try and guess which smart ass I am...

3. Eat healthier - Well, now that I quit smoking, my metabolism will slow down drastically, as it did last time. I don't want to gain weight(in the fat category), so I need to eat healthier. This also goes hand in hand with #s 1 and 2(and vice versa). Today I consumed rabbit food. Rather unsatisfying, but healthier(with the exception of the Italian dressing).

4. Drink weekly - Or daily, whichever. This is an unchanged resolution. One I am sure that I may continue to achieve.

I wish the best of luck to all in the New Year with their lives and resolutions. See my blog weekly for pertinent thoughts and talking points. Politics will be limited now because everyone else in the Cheddarsphere beats the topics to death. What's one more ass whoopin' on my site? I will however skewer car manufacturer's and ethanol on here often.

Harsh Punishment

A 12 year old boy in Columbia, S.C. decided that he couldn't wait until Christmas to play with his Nintendo Game Boy. Can't wait 19 more days, huh?

I must say that when I was young that I could hardly wait for Christmas to come. The night before always seemed to be the most agonizing. Waiting and waiting(now, my mother will not allow my younger sisters to open their presents until the whole family is present and accounted for, which is why I show up around ten... heh).

But this young boy decided instead to go to Grandma's next door and get his present early and play with it. So, did he get a paddling? Nah. Better call the cops.

The mother called police Sunday after learning her son had disobeyed orders and repeatedly taken a Game Boy from its hiding place at his grandmother's house next door and played it. He was arrested on petty larceny charges, taken to the local police station in handcuffs and held until his mother picked him up after church.

Ouch! That'll teach him. From what the rest of the article says, he deserved it. Better yet, he really doesn't even deserve a present that nice anyway. If I acted the way this kid did when I ways his age, I would be lucky to get underwear and socks for Christmas.

You've Got To Be Kidding Me Part 17

Although I couldn't find it on their website at time of publish, the crappiest paper in Milwaukee, the Shepherd Express(paper not even worthy enough for me to wipe my arse with) released their annual Best of Milwaukee list. I happen to know this because a buddy of mine was in attendance last night at the awards banquet at LakeFront Brewery.

Take a wild guess who the best local politician is. Go ahead. Okay, I will give you a couple of hints. He has two names and IDs. Not enough? He has an illegitimate child. Still no? Wow, you must not have been paying attention to anything lately. Okay, he committed perjury. He started a fight at a "peaceful" protest. He shouted obscenities at employees of a Blockbuster Video in Wauwatosa. His father wants to pick off white people on Hwy 45 with a sniper rifle. He wants Hugo Chavez to be his ally. He wants to use Miller Park to host "Crenshaw Style" cruising. Still don't have it?

It's 'Effin Michael McGee/Jackson Jr.!*

I mean, WTF?!? Seriously? You picked a criminal/politician(I know that is an oxymoron) as the best local politician? The same one getting recalled as we speak? Really? GTFO!

I am appalled. This is why we live in a crime ridden city. That can only be the answer. Just incredible.

Uggh. Okay. That's off my shoulders. On a side note, the same awards banquet awarded Mayor Tom Barrett as best local personality. That was over Gousha. So.... you picked a guy with absolutely no personality over a great television personality? Uh huh. Credibility? Nah, I don't think so.

*Willie Hines and Willie Wade were on the ballot too. Why did Wade not win this? Incredible. A criminal, a slum lord and a D7 alderman I never heard of(probably best for him, must not be screwing up too badly).

Just admit that you were wrong. Come on, you can do it. I believe in you. Peter DeLorenzo at AutoExtremist can't seem to admit that VW made a good move going to Crispin Porter + Bogusky(Mini Cooper's former agency) just a little over a year ago for their marketing and advertising. At his website's On The Table Section he bashes VW's decision again and rips their new compact SUV, the Tiguan(pictured below in orange). In fact, he muses that Honda's Step Bus Concept(see toaster/appliance on wheels, pictured below) is a better looking car.

Ummm, Peter? Lay off of the crack.

All this over their advertising and marketing agency? Are you going to tell me that VW's German mad scientist/engineer/Un-Pimp Ze Auto campaign wasn't clever? You didn't chuckle when he pressed the button and sent that pink Mitsubishi flying in the air? OH SNAP! Why don't you ask another marketing expert his opinion? Marketing Sensei, are you there?

Are you going to tell me that their Holy Shit/Crash ad campaign wasn't effective? Attention, negative and positive, is still attention. And it brings about brand awareness, doesn't it Peter?

Well, well. I lost a little AutoExtremist faith today. I still have the utmost respect and will continue to read every Wednesday but with some skepticism in the future.

Christine [sobbing]: BUT I WIKE WAYNEDEER...

HOLIDAY CLAUS: Now then, little one, don't cry! Would a nice holiday gift make you cheer up?

HOLIDAY CLAUS: CHILDREN! I warned you about using the "C" word. It is simply intolerable in today's day and age...

HOLIDAY CLAUS: Why? Because whoever uses the "C" word is an un-American traitor to our country. You see, kids, a long time ago the founders of our country wrote a document called The Constitution. In The Constitution, it was written that every American citizen has the absolute right to never be offended.

Teacher: I don't remember that being in the Constitution! Exactly where are you getting that from?

HOLIDAY CLAUS: Oh sure, it's in there- in the 34th Amendment right next to the right to have an abortion.

Teacher: Wait a minute, there aren't 34 amendements......

HOLIDAY CLAUS: Sure there are. But I digress. Using the "C" word or celebrating Christian holidays on public property also violates the constitutional separation between church and state! It's a slippery slope and we must be ever vigiliant! You see, first they'll be putting "C" trees in front of the courthouse and before you know it they will throw out the law books and use Jesus law instead. In the end, we'll all be forced to pay tithes to the Pope and atheists will be burnt at the stake. So you see, we have to stop the pernicious merger of church and state right where it starts- on decorated pine trees and in cheap plastic light-up nativity scenes at the local firehouse!

Nicole: [tugging on Holiday Claus' shirt] H-Holiday Claus.....w-why do you say that Cwismas is so o-opensive?

HOLIDAY CLAUS: "C" is offensive to anyone who isn't Christian. Think of your little Jewish friend, Josh. Do you really want to make him feel left out during the holiday season? What are you, some sort of little Eichmann or something?

Ahmadinejad, Just Who Are You Fooling?

I read the letter. All of it. And you have to give Ahmadinejad credit for one thing, he is one hell of a snake oil salesman. But, I have always been taught to pay attention to both hands of a magician simultaneously. I know better.

"And if we did not share a common responsibility to promote and protect freedom and human dignity and integrity..."

You mean like attacking the "Zionists" in Israel and plotting to take back the Holy Land that "rightfully" belongs to the Palestinians and is being occupied by the "Zionists."

"...we should be cognizant that human values and our common human spirit, which proclaim the dignity and exalted worth of all human beings..."

How about the worth of the "Zionists" occupying Israel? What about their dignity and exalted worth?

Now this type of flattering schmoozball crap is repeated over and over again and again throughout the letter. I am not so sure that an intelligent informed American would believe this bull. But then again, I am not so sure how many informed and intelligent Americans are out there forming opinions, so to speak.

While Divine providence has placed Iran and the United States geographically far apart, we should be cognizant that human values and our common human spirit, which proclaim the dignity and exalted worth of all human beings, have brought our two great nations of Iran and the United States closer together.

Ahmadinejad is counting on uninformed Americans like the aforementioned to make their opinions heard. He is counting on uninformed Americans sympathizing with him and his cause because of his overly charming bullshit. And, he is making a damn good play.

Unfortunately, there are waaaay to many uninformed Americans out there who would, could and will sympathize with him. All they have to read is the following:

"But regrettably, the US administration disregards even its own public opinion and remains in the forefront of supporting the trampling of the rights of the Palestinian people."

"The US Government used the pretext of the existence of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, but later it became clear that that was just a lie and a deception."

"Were we not faced with the activities of the US administration in this part of the world and the negative ramifications of those activities..."

Roughly translated "IT'S ALL THAT LIAR BUSH AND HIS ADMINISTRATION!!!"

Because Bush is so hated and reviled by so many, if the uninformed American public reads this, they may side with the snake oil salesman.

Fortunately, most of the American public will not read the whole letter be it due to laziness, lack of interest or limitations on access.

That being said, Ahmadinejad is really reaching. It's pretty sad. He is an incredibly misleading, hateful and destructive individual but rather pathetic.

Today while driving down Brady Street, I noticed a new ad placed by Fair Wisconsin on a bus stop shelter. That part that sticks in my brain is the line in the center that read "Don't Mess With the Constitution."

Of course, they show a picture at the top of the ad that displays the Constitution of the United States, not Wisconsin. Funny enough though, that's what got my brain stewing. Having thought about it for the last few hours now, actually, I think I might have a brain aneurysm. Its these same assholes who are touting not messing with the constitution that also want more GUN control(actually, they just want to get rid of guns). This just happens to mess with the second amendment contained in the Bill of Rights in the United States constitution(the same one they incorrectly display).

What's sad is that the "sheeple" out there who don't know any better are going to probably listen instead of investigating into what it is exactly the ad refers to.

Special Guest Appearance at Drinking Right

I am pleased to announce that I will be escorting Birch Barlow to this coming Drinking Right on Tuesday, November 7th. As some of you may well know, he is the lesser known conservative talk radio host on KBBL out of Springfield. For those of you unfamiliar with Birch, this picture here will get you familiar with him so that you may recognize him when he arrives.

Birch Barlow has often been compared to Rush Limbaugh of national conservative radio fame. The two have a similar appearance, similar voice tone and similar mannerisms. The two also have first names that are names of plants. Please do not touch Mr. Barlow nor point out his similarities to Rush as both will send him into a psychotic rage.

Mr. Barlow will be on hand Tuesday to give us analysis on the local and national races as the polls update and come in to us via live broadcast on KBBL and Fox News.

As Pundit Nation points out in this post, Drinking Right really is a meeting not unlike one that occurs on the television show, The Simpsons. I expect all attendees to have the official Drinking Right song memorized this time. And please Casper, be in tune with the rest of the group.

Why is it lately that I wake up every day feeling as if I have already been screwed? Yeah, this is going to be one of those kinds of posts. I don’t often do these kinds of posts, but haven’t found anything else lately that I really want to talk about.

Nothing.

I really don’t feel like talking about why BagMan Jimbo is a slimeball. We all already know that and most of the people in the “Cheddarsphere” beat the crap out of him on a daily basis.

I really don’t feel like talking about election ads, election funds and or why Jim Sensenbrenner will cream the crap out of those two peons running against him.

I really don’t feel like talking about why Gwen Moore shouldn’t be reelected. She still will, and probably will until she dies.

I don’t want to talk about how ridiculously overtaxed we are in Wisconsin.

I don’t want to talk about how people are being murdered all over Milwaukee and how we don’t have a “crisis.”

I don’t want to talk about having to put my car in storage. I don’t want to talk about how it’s supposed to be a warm winter because of “La Nina.”

I don’t want to talk about how everyday I put that “Corn-a-hol” shit in my ’72 VW that I could hear that engine choking for it’s life.

I also don’t want to talk about why I feel that the only fuel alternative that makes sense is being ignored because there is no money in refining grease.

No, I don’t want to talk about any of those things.

I want to talk about our economy. Short and sweet. On Thursday, October 19, 2006 the Dow Jones Industrial reached a dizzying high closing above 12000 points. I am sure that most of you already know this and have been paying attention.

It is all a sham. Smoke and mirrors. BS.

WHY?

How has business been for you lately? Are you posting company highs and record earnings? Is your business so busy right now that you can’t keep up? No, I didn’t think so. Those of you that I know who read this blog don’t work for Archer Daniels Midland.

How has the value of your house been lately? More importantly, do you own a home, or is it mortgaged? What kind of mortgage do you have? I hope you aren’t like some of those poor souls that got suckered into an arm or a variable rate. I hope you didn’t finance 125% of that new home’s value when you bought it 3 years ago. I hope you aren’t trying to refi out of that variable rate mortgage now only to find out that you are upside down… in a house.

I hope, on the other hand, that you are one of the lucky souls in a great financial position. I hope that you have a very equitable debt to income ratio. I hope someone didn’t slam you into a bad spot.

Someone like GM, DamChry or FoMoCo.

It has finally happened. I knew it would and have been talking about it for quite some time. If you know me more intimately than the blogosphere, you would know that I have been talking about this for some time. How many times can you roll inequity before it’s one too many? How much did you finance into that new car loan for 96 months? 115%? 125%? 140%? How much depreciation can you handle in one year? 30%? 40%? Dare I say 50%? (That’s for those of you in Neons, Cavaliers and old body style Suburbans/Tahoes.)

Do you realize that the retail automobile industry is a huge indicator of our economy? Do you realize that for every car that a car salesman sells that it creates and or supports 6 jobs? Did you realize that once we see sales come to a screeching halt, you will see it too? What about service? Yeah, that’s dried up too. Besides repairing customer’s cars, they maintain cars on the lot that aren’t being moved. So no new ones come in… and work doesn’t turn over like it’s supposed to.

We were down roughly 40% last month form September, 2005. September is a huge month. This month doesn’t look too much better. This isn’t just my shop, this is everywhere.

Why the big 3? When you continue to pull future buyers out of the market, it creates a small ripple. That small ripple gets bigger and bigger. It gets big enough until that halt comes.

Hear it? I do. And it sounds more like a small recession than a screech.

Don’t believe me, wait and see. ’07 will be a trying time. And it won’t be just for me.

What can we expect if Kathleen Falk is elected as the Attorney General in Wisconsin? Nothing good that I can foresee, but I have been wrong before. In the past Kathleen has been known to prosecute frivolous, meaningless lawsuits that do nothing but attack big business and waste time and money, especially to big businesses who aren't necessarily in the wrong and have to pony up the dough to pay their lawyers. Is this just one thing that we can expect in the future?

Maybe Kathleen and Bill Lockyer, Attorney General of the fine state of California, are good pals. Maybe. Time will certainly tell if Kathleen gets elected. In the mean time, we can only guess.

So who is Bill? If you have been paying attention lately, you may have noticed that Bill has taken a page out of the Kathleen Falk book of tricks and filed a lawsuit against GM, Ford, Dodge, Honda, Nissan and Toyota. Yes, even the very "green" Toyota. The lawsuit alleges that these manufacturers have been building automobile for years(no shit, eh?) that burn gasoline and diesel and create harmful emissions. These emissions "add to global warming, harm people’s health, damage the welfare of the state, lessen the snowpack on California’s mountains, and pollute rivers." All of this is reason enough for Bill to seek tens of millions of dollars.

Now, as many of you may have guessed, I am not a lawyer. In fact, if you can draw a conclusion, you can look at the top of my page and read what it is that I might be. Therefore, take it from an expert. Ben Stein (anyone?) wrote an excellent article in the New York Slimes last week that sums it up pretty damn good. A couple of excerpts for you lucky readers here to follow.

Now, for all of you who were not law students, Mr. Lockyer’s suit is a tort suit, such as you might file if you were parked at a stoplight and a car behind you failed to stop and slammed into your car, crushing it and injuring you.

The reason it’s called a tort suit is that the French word “tort” means a wrong or a wrongdoing, and failing to stop at a stoplight is wrong. The same would apply if a restaurant negligently poisoned you or if your neighbor crashed his car into your mailbox.

The point is that a wrong has to have been done in order for there to be a lawsuit. This is the problem, or one of the problems, with the attorney general’s lawsuit. The car companies have done nothing wrong. It’s that simple. They manufacture a perfectly legal product, a car or truck. They manufacture it in accordance with strict regulations about every single aspect of its building and use.

Excited yet? It gets better...

So, for making a lawful product that complies with regulations and is necessary and bought by millions of Californians each year, all knowing that their cars produce emissions, G.M., Ford and the others are being sued.

Where is the wrong here? What have the car companies done that is a wrongful act, except in the imagination of an attorney general?

The assault on automobile companies does not allege even the slightest degree of deception as to how cars work. Everyone knows that cars and trucks burn fuel, and that this process produces emissions. How could there be deception here? More to the point, if we as a people do not know that burning gasoline and diesel fuel causes carbon dioxide emissions, we are in such a state of willful ignorance that we have, as lawyers say, “assumed the risk.”

But where is the causation in Mr. Lockyer’s suit? How do we know that the lung and heart damage and global warming and melting snowpack were not caused by industrial emissions or by emissions that come from China and India and drift over California? How can anyone prove that any specific damage was done by any specific set of cars and trucks or by all of them? How can anyone prove that any specific amount of global warming was caused by any car maker?

Oohhh, very good stuff. I am pretty excited. Especially knowing that this could be hitting home really, really soon. Ben Stein does an excellent job writing this article and pointing out how silly, stupid and frivolous of a sham lawsuit that it is. Makes you kinda wonder how dumb Bill Lockyer must feel after reading this article, assuming that is, that he did read it.

In case you couldn't tell, I am being sarcastic. People who think that these things should be done overnight are naive, impatient and just plain dumb. Rebuilding something like the WTC, the Marquette or a whole city takes a lot of time and planning. I would like to see what you are doing Nagin to quicken the process. Oh yeah, that's right, you were taking up too much of your own time trying to cover your ass and get reelected.

STFU already! Any credibility you had blew away in the hurricane. Nobody really cares what you think. How you are going to be interviewed on CBS's 60 Minutes is beyond me, like intelligent people can't see right through you as you try to pass the buck.

Ford Nissan Deal a Sham

If you haven't been paying too much attention to the automotive news lately, you wouldn't have noticed talks about a possible platform/engine/transmission merger between GM and Nissan/Renault. GM CEO Rick Wagoner wanted absolutely nothing to do with this if you believe DeLorenzo at AutoExtremist.com, and I tend to agree. I also agree with him that Jack Kerkorian is trying way to hard to control the outcome of the company considering that he owns only a small share of GM. I also agree with DeLorenzo that this might be a some smoke and mirrors trick move for Carlos Ghosn, Nissan/Renault's CEO, to get a chance to take on his next "project", conveniently getting away from Nissan/Renault right before the shit hits the fan(see reliability/quality issues).

So what is this I see on MSNBC.com only a couple of hours ago? What is this bogus story that Bill Ford has been speaking with Carlos Ghosn on a merger between the two? This is the biggest bunch of hogwash I have seen in automotive news reporting that I have seen yet. Let me list the reasons why:

1. Mazda. In case you did not know, FoMoCo owns a third of Mazda. Ford and Mazda do share a lot of joint platforms because of this partnership. Examples?

A. The Ford Fusion/Mercury Milan/Lincoln Zephyr are all built off of the highly successful Mazda 6 platform. This platform was developed by Mazda.

B. The new Ford Edge was built off of the highly touted Mazda CX-7 platform.

C. The next generation Ford Focus(already available in Europe) is built off of the highly successful Mazda 3 platform, the fastest selling compact in the class. The Volvo S40(Ford also owns Volvo) is built off of the Mazda 3 platform.

In addition, Mazda supplies many engines for Ford, and vice versa. The 3.0L 6 cylinder Duratec in the Mazda Tribute, the Mazda MPV, the Mazda 6 and the Mazda truck, is built by Ford. I am not too crazy about the engine, but it gets the job done effectively enough. The 2.3L 4 cylinder MZR engine which has just received an increase in orders and is incredibly reliable, is built by Mazda in Japan. This motor can be found in many Ford products, too many to name.

So? Well, what does Ford need from Nissan that they don't already get from Mazda on a platform/engine/transmission line? There would be no "synergy benefits" that I can foresee coming from a merger. None. Especially when Nissan is experiencing a problem with quality and reliability and Mazda is not.

2. Ford doesn't have the same problems that GM does, plain and simple. Although sales in Ford are down, they still have the number one selling vehicle in the country(see the F series pickup truck). They also have a lot of great products in the pipeline. True, GM has some nice products on their lots, Ford just doesn't have financial problems that are looming and anywhere near as threatening. Ford doesn't have to worry about legacy bennies, current bennies, severance packages, strikes, job cuts and billion dollar yearly losses. Ford isn't nearly as reviled by the "Drive By Media" as GM is(more on this in a bit).

3. Nissan has nothing to offer. Nothing. We went over the platforms, engines, and transmissions that Mazda offers. We haven't touched on manufacturing as much, and I realize that. This is where Nissan may help us in North America as they have more plants here than Mazda does. Only three Mazdas are manufactured in the USA in harmony with FoMoCo. Although a small number in terms of platform, all three are high volume platforms in either Mazda, Ford or both.

The Tribute built in harmony with the Ford Escape, isn't a huge seller for Mazda, but it's sibling, the Escape, is a big seller for Ford.

The Mazda 6 is built in harmony with the Ford Fusion/Mercury Milan/Lincoln Zephyr. Although the three latter aren't as big sellers as predicted, they have only been in the market less than a full model year. The 6 on the other hand sells very well for Mazda and has received over 100 international awards alone.

Finally, Mazda's B series truck and the Ford Ranger are built in harmony in the US. Of the two siblings, the Ford out sells the Mazda at about 5 or 6 to one. Not the best, but what does Nissan bring to the table that Mazda doesn't in the truck category, the Frontier? Ha.

So, overall, why? Why is the merger bullshit? Why is the merger smoke and mirrors technique? We touched on it before, and we will again. This is the "Drive By Media" fabricating and blowing up a story 500 times larger than it actually is. This is Jack Kerkorian leaning on his buddies in SoCal to help him get his way. This is a wannabe small hostile takeover and a chance to make GM look bad. This is the media trying to create something to pressure Wagoner to fall. "Look! Look! Ford is interested, why aren't you Rick?!" It's a bunch of crap. Plain and simple. If you read enough about the automotive industry as I do, you would know there is just as much slant in the "reporting" as there is in the political arena. And, as Peter DeLorenzo would say, you can pretty much count on all this hogwash getting filed at "NotGonnaHappen.com."

Terrorists, or Just a Strange Tradition?

From Kenosha News Today:

Kenosha Wisconsin (AP) Two men are in custody today due to the vigilance of a Walmart employee Bernice Hansen. In a statement to Kenosha police by Hansen the two men now identified as Dennis Misner, 23 of Gurnee IL, Adam Morbark 22 of Forest Park IL, entered her checkout lane on Wednesday with a large quantity (reportedly 37 rolls) of blue painters tape and the new Celine Dion compact disc “The Miracle”. Hansen said “With all the terrorist activity going on with stuff like Trac Phones, I just couldn’t see anything good coming out of two young guys running around with all that tape and that Celine Dion cd. That’s when I called my manager.”

Kenosha police sergeant Vincent (Vinnie) Gianaselli said the two men were apprehended and brought in for questioning about the incident late Wednesday afternoon. “There were some inconsistencies in the two men’s stories which lead to what is now an ongoing investigation” said Gianaselli in an interview on Thursday. He continued “Mr. Misner was very stirred up by the incident and claimed the attempted tape purchase was for a painting project and the cd was purchased as a gift for his sister. Mr. Morbark who insisted on being identified only as ‘turbo18tee’ claimed all 37 rolls of tape were intended to be applied to the two men’s vehicles in some sort of yearly ritual they perform called Treffen. Morbark also claimed the Celine Dion cd the two attempted to purchase was just ‘jams’ to be played while the tape ritual was performed.”

Gianaselli said there were still a lot of unanswered questions. Due to the highly irregular nature of the incident and the crossing of state lines, Kenosha PD turned the case over the the FBI field office in Cincinatti OH early this afternoon who at the time of press could not be reached for comment.

Both Misner and Morbark are being held without bond under the guidelines of the recently renewed Patriot Act.

You can't make this stuff up people. These guys were going Treffen, a VW show in northern Illinois. A buddy of mine tipped me off about these two. What a riot.

Unfortunately at the next two scheduled blog meet and greets/drinking outings, I will be remaining somewhat anonymous, not by my choice.

This Saturday at the State Fair, the BBA is hosting a meet and greet at the microbrew tent starting at noon. Details here. I will be selling cars in a very "disgruntled" manner having missed this opportunity.

The following Tuesday at Papa's Social Club on 77th and Burliegh will be the third installment of Drinking Right. On Tuesday evening I am pleased to announce that I will be drinking and in a venue just as prestigious as the aforementioned. I will be attending a game at Miller Park. Unfortunately, besides my brother and two other friends, I will not have the opportunity to be surrounded by people who are quite as prestigious as the members of the Drinking Right club. I will be at a Brewers/Cubs game, which we all know are packed with smelly "FIBs." (A whole new rant for a different day)

Snubbed By A County

How does it feel to be snubbed by a whole county? Well, at least 18 board members from that county. UW Madison's reigning moonbat lecturer Kevin Barrett should be able to form an opinion on this matter having been on the receiving end of this after Ozaukee county supervisor Joseph Sopko and 17 other Ozaukee county board members voted to contribute $8427 less to the UW extension, or, exactly his salary. Ouch. Talk about rejection. I like the move. I like the move a lot. Hopefully other counties will follow suit. If all 72 counties do, that is nearly $600,000 that UW extension will lose. Hopefully, that will result in the loss of one moonbat lecturer too.

Okay, I went to a couple of bars on Water Street last night, and I think that the women I saw have reached a new all time low. Is that possible? Have they always been this bad and I never noticed until last night? Or is it me?

All very good questions, but I can assure you that it is not the latter.

Well, what were they doing? In case you have not been to Water Street lately, specifically Brothers on Water, I will be glad to fill you in (this is a family oriented blog, so I will sugar coat it just a tad). They are all trolops as one might say. Scantily clad women running around acting in a manner unbecoming of a young ladies.

Last night at the Brewer game, besides discussing the great pitching game of Ben Sheets, and the horrible job Dave Bush did in replacing him and losing us the game, we discussed the new Chorizo Racing sausage soon to join the Famous Klement's Racing Sausages. Apparently this is set to happen on Thursday. This brings a lot of good questions to the table.

Is this a marketing ploy, or is it just a way to pander to the Mexican fans and people?

I am not sure how I feel about this yet. Every part of me tells me that this is just some sort of stunt designed to pander in order to appear more pc. Or, maybe some lefty CEO up there in the ranks of Klement's feels bad about his so called racist company. But then again, the Mexican culture is a big part of our country and the game of baseball. They are also a pretty big buying demographic and a chunk of the sausage market too.

What do you think? I will tell you my real opinions and my made up mind after I see the Chorizo race on Friday night.

Okay. After two hours of painful self surgery, I was able to remove the ball point pen I involuntarily shoved 3 inches into my temple after reading her editorial in the Urinal Sentinel today(originally written for the NY Slimes on 07.19.06*).

Where to begin?

1. Maureen, you are incredibly childish. Your finger pointing and name calling brings you down to the level of some five year olds I have witnessed. Oh, he said it! He said the word shit! Give me a break. What, the leader of the free world can't swear? He was having a very quiet conversation with British Prime Minister Tony Blair, not screaming profanities across the room like a belligerent drunk.

You know, you have an obsession with this "frat boy" name calling thing. I am starting to think that maybe you were that ugly chick in college. You know what I am talking about. The man doesn't really get much of a day to himself ever. He can't have a night off? And what business is it of yours if he does. Where were you when X42 was getting a bj in the oval office? Were you questioning his "free time?" No, I think you were blowing Hill. Sod off.

4. I highly doubt Tony Blair is treated by Bush like his "servant." You really are pathetic to even suggest that.

Bloggers everywhere are discussing it(actually, two). The glorious return of the heated discussions revolving around... you guessed it, the Prostitot! If you aren't familiar with the term, you can view my archived post from Aug. '05 here. I initially started talking about this dangerous epidemic in this post, which didn't receive a whole lot of attention. Now, bloggers like Charlie and Cantankerous bring this glorious topic to the surface once again.

Now, Charlie discusses mainly women in their 20s who choose to dress like "skanks." I reach a crossroads on this particular topic, but eventually find my way to the right conclusion. Although in some cases it is pleasing to the eye (I am a man), it gives women an inflated ego in the end. You do not look that good, especially if the shirt is two sizes too small and foreign matter is hanging out. 'Nuf Said!

Cantankerous, on the other hand, chooses to discuss men who are assholes. While she does agree with Charlie that "skanks" need to clean up their acts, she addresses the much more deprived topic involving men who are assholes. There are a lot of them, of all ages, who are unjustified in their actions. You are not that cool, I completely agree. (For those audience members here that may know me on a personal level, yes, I know that I am being somewhat contradicting here. Yes, I can be an asshole, but it is usually justified.)

What can we do? Expose them. Like I had initially called for in Aug. '05 with the emerging prostitot crowd, it is important that we apply the same rule to both culprits. I will be glad to spearhead this effort in the most tactful manner possible.

Perceived Value of Hybrid Vehicles Falling GASP

Wow. I didn't see this one coming from a mile away. Last month AutoExtremist.com surveyed roughly 1200 automotive industry professionals, myself included, and recently posted their findings on their site. Shockingly enough, the perceived value of hybrids has gone down.

And you know what? I am glad. A short term solution attached to an unproven technology has sent fuel saving alternative technology in different directions. Hybrid technology has a lot of potential, but will not be a solution for most likely two decades. First, manufacturers need to find a way to reveal "truth in MPG ratings." In addition, they also need to develop a way to provide for better performance for real world driving situations. Finally, they need to control their dealers. I have been told that $2k, $3k, $4k and in some case $5k over listed MSRP are acceptable ADMs (or additional dealer markups for you rookies out there).

I, for one, am still on the diesel bus. I always have been. Any engine that provides real world performance and 49 MPG while having the ability to run on completely renewable clean resources is a home run in my book.

Knowing this, why is Ethanol still in the works? Calm down, don't think about it too much, your head will explode.

This seems to be the question that DaimlerChrysler execs are asking themselves as they heap back into employee pricing and 0% financing. Although I like the financing program as an incentive to consumers, offering the employee pricing and huge rebates is a bad move.

Why, you ask? Well it's simple really. Typically, domestic buyers stay in the domestic family, i.e., they buy domestic cars. But, when you offer deep discounts, you bury your customer in the loan so bad that no length of rope can pull them out. Simply put, DamChry is DESTROYING their used market by pushing more and more product into the market. Currently, a bank will finance you in a new auto loan up to 130% of the car's list.

The question is, how much farther will that bank have to go to dig the customer out in the future? 140%? 150%?

I am glad I don't drive a Dodge.

Plenty of people in the blogoshpere and the cheddarsphere alike are complaining about him. Why? Who cares? So what if he still has enough celebrity power left that he can hock crappy t shirts online to save his house. Are you jealous of that? I am sure not going to buy a t shirt and I don't really care if a bunch of other people do. You are free to spend your own money in any way you see fit, as long as it is legal. I personally won't spend it in that particular avenue (better spent on booze down the hatch), but to each their own.

So You Think You Want a Diesel?

In accordance with my contracts and obligations, the following post will be a half assed attempt at a sales pitch as well as a public service annoucement. Without further ado...

Next model year, that's 2007 for those of you readers who are oblivious to time, VW will NOT be offering diesel powered passenger vehicles. Specifically, the Jetta sedan and wagon, the new Rabbit(was a Golf) and the Beetle coupe.

Why? Well, VWAG was banking heavily on the legislation to pass that would bring European spec diesel fuel to our country which is of much lower sulfur caliber. This way, VWAG would not have to pour the money into developing a particulate filter that would lower the emissions of these vehicles using the current diesel fuel. Now, '07 models cannot pass the even lower (they were lowered two years ago) emissions standards.

So, what to do? BUY ONE NOW if you want one. Two of my customers averaging 48 - 49mpg on the freeway in the new Jetta. That is 6 - 7mpg over listed sticker numbers.

Muslim Demands

This morning on Sykes, Charlie discusses what the response of public schools should be to the recent demands of Muslim students and parents. Specifically, Muslim parents ask that if their daughters are playing a basketball team against another school that has no Muslims, that men may not be present due to the attire their Muslim daughters would be donning. Hmmmm..... separation of church and state?

Here are your unofficial answers.

1. Don't allow your daughters to play basketball because men will be there and viewing them in "non modest apparel".

2. Send your daughter(s) to a private school where your wishes may be met.

Specifically following up on the second answer: My parents wanted me to learn the Catholic religion. They DID NOT ask the public schools to teach it to me, instead sent me to a private school where it would be taught. I did not hear this oh so common sense answer provided (I did miss small tidbits of the segment), but it seems like a no brainer to me.

Chicago Rose Fan Club

I saw Chicago Rose again over the weekend at Lucille's Rockin' Pianos on Old World 3rd street in downtown Milwaukee. I have recently put this bar into a regular rotation and I highly recommend that you visit if you have the opportunity.

This past Saturday I visited and had the opportunity to see Chicago Rose perform (3rd time I have seen her) and decided she is a must post for this blog. Great performer, incredibly entertaining, excellent pianist, wonderful vocalist and much nicer to look at that the guys they usually have onstage playing. I also strongly believe that Casper at AskMeLater will agree that she is a very beautiful woman.

Definitely blog worthy, wouldn't you agree? (Like I care if you do anyways)

Man Buries BMW?

Ohio resident Bill Mueller decided to bury his 1997 BMW when the engine went *poof*. Why? Well, insurance, stupid!

BUSTED! Yeah, the fuzz found out. Obviously, he didn't get away with it...

"Mueller, 35, was sentenced to one year in prison for committing insurance fraud, tampering with evidence, falsification and receiving stolen property. Adding insult to injury, he also had to pay restitution to his insurance company and $15,500 to the state--- its fee for digging up his BMW."

I don't typically like to link to another local bloggers site and tell the world about how fabulous the article they wrote is. Pandering like that is not something that I like to partake in, and my reasons are my own. (In other words, I will not implicate anyone in the local Cheddarsphere. You know who you are...)

But, this article was good. Really good. Sykes does an excellent job of pointing out the liberal hypocrisy that is so apparent in our everyday lives.

This (now you may listen to my own esteemed opinion) should be a bigger story than it is. I don't care if Court TV is covering this trial or not, I haven't heard enough noise around this story in the media, local or otherwise. (By media, I do mean blogs, talk radio, newspapers and local and cable news)

Of course there is a perfectly legitimate reason for this. The MSM doesn't want to point out the blatant hypocrisy and or scandalous nature of the DNC.

But, talk radio? Belling was on Rush Limbaugh two weeks ago and this past Monday and Tuesday. He did not mention a word of it. He had the best opportunity to bring it to a national stage, and he didn't. Shame on him.

In the Cheddarsphere and Blogosphere, I haven't heard enough of it either. (One blog was picked up on Google on the topic "The Milwaukee 5," Michelle Malkin's) Apparently, there is no drive to catch these damn liberals while we have the chance!

There may be redemption, though. IF the Milwaukee five are convicted (personally, I will settle for four of them, one was could get off on a technicality) we in the Cheddarsphere need to scream bloody friggin' murder until everyone in the Blogosphere, talk radio, newspapers, and local and national news programs hear us.

I personally will not let these dirty bastards get away with this if they are found guilty. Furthermore, I will hammer Gwen Moore everyday in this blog if her son and his cronies go down. She will sink with this smelly, foul ship.

The Bush Administration Makes Me Smoke

Apparently actor Sean Penn started smoking again. I really don't care about that part. What I do find interesting, more humorous than anything is who he blames, Bush. I guess the stress of the Bush administration was enough to drive him to smoke even though he quit in 2000 following his father's death due to lung cancer.

I would just like to take this opportunity to point out a couple of things:

1. Actors (and actresses too, were not sexist here) like Sean Penn are great for proving one thing, the stupidity of comments they make when they are "off camera." This one doesn't top my favorite which is a tie between Kanye West and Cameron Diaz.

2. I thought people smoked because of the luring advertisements of tobacco companies and because cool little pre-pubescent Johnny does it, not because of the Bush Administration. I guess I was wrong again.

3. I just quit smoking. I guess I am the odd man out and will continue to be unpopular whilst going against the mainstream grain of the Hollywood elitist types. Oh well, big surprise.

Finally! Finally GM has introduced the value pricing on their vehicles eliminating rebates for once and for all. Maybe, just maybe, this will stabilize their used and new vehicle markets.

I feel bad for those upside down to the tune of $5k or more, as now the defunct rebates will not aid you in getting out of your loan.

I have been raving on and on about this (in case you aren't a regular) and am glad I am seeing GM take a step in the right direction.

I would like to start this entry letting everyone know that I am typing this with my "formerly nicotine stained" fingers. Thanks to El Rushbo for the line... Moving along.

You know what? I kinda liked Eugene Kane. I don't know why, but I liked to read his columns. Some made me laugh, some made me think, some made sense, some didn't. I know that about 99.9% of the time, I did not agree with him.

Bloggers in the "Cheddarsphere" have been talking about Kane for a couple weeks now more frequently, and I did not want to throw my hat in the ring for a topic I did not care to discuss that much.

But today I changed my mind. I read Kane's blog, and have been reading McBride's blog for quite some time. Kane slams McBride like nobody's business in his blog, and does so with such a cute little elitist attitude (McBride does a great job pointing out his "best blog" comment). How are you going to say you have one of the best blogs only being in the blogosphere for 1 month? Wow, you ARE really full of yourself after that comment.

Kane also does a great job slamming bloggers in general in his January 7th article. I pointed out this same thing over at Dad29. Funny how the guy who condemns blogs and most bloggers is one himself now. Just like most elitist MSM members, he is succumbing to the power of the blog because he has to. Now he will be amongst the "common folk" in this all too new and scary medium.

What it all comes down to here though is that Kane is not going to find sympathy and friends here in the "Cheddarshpere." In this great free thinking forum, he will find that the majority of the people do not agree with him, and won't put up with him tying to force opinions down everyone's throat. The "common folk" have a voice and forum to express it in Kane, and you are now forced to live with it.

I, for one, have got McBride's back. I can list out about 20 - 30 other people who will throw down for her as well. Who do you have, Kane?

Your paper, column, notoriety, and elitist views are falling to the wayside, Kane. Whatcha gonna do?

Took You Long Enough

Finally, a trial for the tire slashers. Finally. I actually forgot about this. I figured that nothing would ever come of it, and no one would ever be punished for it. To my surprise though, I was wrong (for once).

Will they get off? Yeah. Tainted jury pools, useless testimonies, slimy political connections will all add up to equal acquittal. Do I care? Kinda... It's a shame to see slimeballs like these slip through the cracks.

But while we are on the topic... I had initially asked myself these questions when this issue first came along. Maybe someone here can fill me in on some details...

1. Wasn't Gwen Moore's alias "Supreme Muhhamad Allah" something or other? If so, how do you get a name like that?

2. What do you suppose Gwen Moore and former acting mayor Marvin Pratt said to their children when they introduced each other? Here is what I imagined...

"Now you two kids vandalize nicely and work together to damage those republican rented get out the vote vans. If you don't, no ice cream treat later..."

I don't know, maybe it's just me. Maybe coincidence.

3. Isn't that one white guy like 35? Doesn't he seem like the type of guy you always see living with his parents and recently fired from the hemp shop he worked at? What a loser.

4. Why is the national AFL-CIO President John J. Sweeney a witness? Was there a labor union dispute in who did more slashing and vandalizing?

Things to ponder. Maybe you can shed some light. And, if they don't go down on these felony charges, hopefully Biskupic will step up with some federal charges. But you can bet I won't be holding my breath.

What Happened to the Classifieds?

I know this post is going to make me sound old. Really old. But, I must comment on this pressing issue without worry of forthcoming labels. What happened to the classified section?

I first noticed on Monday that the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel started advertising that you may place ads with a light yellow color background. This color is similar to that of the yellow pages in the phone book. The idea is to get your ad to pop out and draw the attention of the reader's eye. Sounds good to me. But, as you may already know, what looks good on paper isn't always necessarily "good on paper."

I opened the Classified section of the paper today and immediately closed it. I opened again and was blinded by all the yellow. Once my eyes adjusted, I found myself looking at ads for used pianos, pure bred springer spaniels and an available audio tour manager position. Not that I have anything against any of these things, I am not interested in them. Even if I finally locate the ad I am looking for, I am to distracted to read it.

I, for one, would like to see the ads immediately changed back. It won't happen. No one ever listens to me. If you read this blog, you will now be prepared for the inevitable. You will find yourself also looking at ads for springer spaniels if you are not careful, but not without forewarning.

I guess maybe I am just bitching too much. But hey, that's what I have been told one of the perks of getting older is.

Driver's License Legislation Necessary

Today in the Urinal Sentinel on the "Perspectives" page, a one Darlene Mendez writes about the harm that Senate bill 334 and Assembly bill 69 would create for legal and illegal immigrants if passed. She claims "broad repercussions" for all citizens. "Broad repercussions?" What?

I, for one, would like to know how it will be more difficult for me, a Wisconsin resident and citizen, to get my driver's license renewed when the time comes to pass. I have never, not since I started driving, had a problem displaying proof of residency. Why and how would it be difficult for a resident to prove it? Do they not get mail at their address? Do they not file tax returns? Do they not attend some type of school or institution of higher learning? Do they not have a job?

This is a really weak argument. REALLY weak. The most difficulty I have come across in obtaining a driver's license was when it was time for me to assist my sister in getting a state identification card (she chooses not to drive, probably a good thing). In order for us to get her the ID card, we needed to return to the homestead after waiting in the excrutiatingly long line to obtain her tax return in lieu of a piece of personal mail.

OOOOOOH! Big deal! Fine, I have no problem going a little out of my way to secure the interests of the country.

Why, what do you mean "interests of the country?" What could you possibly be eluding to? I'll tell you what I am eluding to. I don't WANT illegals to be able to obtain driver's licenses. Am I racist? No. Are you blind to the fact that we are all, in essence, immigrants and should all have an equal chance? No. Then what, pray tell, DCS would want you to prevent others from taking advantage of the freedoms you have "taken advantage of?"

TERRORISTS! Do you want me to spell it out for you? T-E-R-R-O-R-I-S-T-S. If you have a decent memory, you will recall that the 9/11 plane hijackers all had driver's licenses. This key enabler allowed them to move around and live freely in our country in order to complete their heinous crimes.

Oh, but DCS, none of these illegals applying are terrorists!!! Boo effin' hoo. Too bad. Go back to where it is you came from and obtain a legal means of entry to this country. Once you have done so, I have no problem with you getting a driver's license. According to Mz. Mendez, all you would then need is "...proof of legal permanent or conditional residency, a valid visa, an application for asylum, valid refugee status or an application for legal permanent residency." Is that so difficult? I didn't think so.

And your argument about illegals not coming forward to authorities to report crime and testify? Another weak argument. This isn't a point you can argue considering that it is a hypothetical. You can do better, can't you Mz. Mendez?

And what fake identification black market are you referring to? Oh, I am not naive, I am sure one exists. But it is only a matter of time until law enforcement discovers it and it is shut down. Another weak argument.

"Furthermore, the legislation undermines national security." No, Mz. Mendez, not passing the patriot act undermines national security.

If this legislation isn't passed, what next? Are we going to allow illegals to vote? Should they have that "unalienable" right too? Hmmm, Mz. Mendez?

What a joke this state is becoming. A common sense law like this is a MUST pass law. Without a law like this, we open the door for continuous possibilities for terrorists and attackers. No, I am not being paranoid, I am just thinking with my head. You see, conservatives tend to rely on common sense and good judgement, something I don't expect the liberal readers of this blog to ever understand.

The Marine and the Insurgent

The Death Spiral and the Consequences

As I write this, GM CEO Rick Wagoneer is on the Rush Limbaugh show making his pitch to the audience. I imagine it is something like this...

"Buy our product please. We are dying over here, and you, the American public, are letting us go to the wayside. Help, or we will all ride the death spiral to hell."

Cute. But true? Unfortunately yes. We are in a problem state. We have a burning issue that needs to be addressed. What are we going to do to save this company? Surely I don't suggest that we all start sending in cash donations. Surely I don't expect you to go out and buy one of their cars immediately (although you may want to consider what they have to offer when the time comes... What?!? Me, making a sales pitch for the competitor?!? You bet).

No, I suggest we make this an issue now. I suggest we get in the ears of our legislators. I suggest we have the government address this issue before it becomes an "economic suicide."

In the 2006 election run, I want to see this a big part of the platform. BIG. This is an issue that needs to be addressed. Legislators need to start weighing the possibilities of a tariff to save GM and the US manufacturing community.

I, for one, am afraid to see the results if this doesn't happen.

2006 Election Topics

This might seem a bit premature, but speculation is fun and I respect the opinion of the boys over at AutoExtremist enough to post this on my blog.

If you have read my blog lately, you'll plainly see that I bash GM on a weekly, sometimes daily, basis. I suspect a fair amount comes from the patriot anger brewing inside of me. I would love to see GM be #1, and it kind of stings to see them falling off the horse. A lot of what you will hear me say is "poor quality" this and "high incentive" that. And a fair amount of these topics are related to the demise of this once great beast. But there is more to the story.

I missed it, but GM CEO Rick Wagoneer wrote a piece for The Wall Street Journal last week entitled "A Portrait of My Industry." In it, he delves into several different problems plaguing the US auto industry. Unfair trade, global competition, health care and legacy costs are a fair amount of what he believes are putting GM in it's current situation. And he is right. These things certainly play a role.

But this isn't why I brought this topic up. Peter DeLorenzo and the AutoExtremist staff think Wagoneer and Bill Ford will be in the ears of politicians next year for assistance in fighting these matters so these manufacturers don't flop. If two of the big three, wait, scratch that... if even ONE(probably GM) of the big three come tumbling down, the whole American economy might as well follow.

I realize that I am contradicting myself, especially when you consider where my product originates from. I am in a conundrum if you will. I can't sell something I don't believe in, and I don't believe in domestic product. Tough spot, but no one likes car salesmen anyway. But I do believe that it is vital to make this an issue now, and agree that the best way to do it is put it on the political platform in the next round of elections. An ignored problem does not go away, it gets bigger. And when that problem rears it's ugly head, it is going to be big trouble for all of us.

A New Pet Peeve

Besides BagManJimbo, liars, people who commit and cancel at the last second, namby pambies, bimbos, the Clintons, people who drive slow in the passing lane, liberals, hippies, pedophiles and crack heads, I have a new pet peeve.

I live in Wisconsin. I have for my entire life. I learned to drive in this state. Furthermore, every vehicle I learned to drive in was rear wheel drive sans ABS brakes and a traction control program (My favorite was the 1990 Chevy Caprice with a 305 V8 and RWD. We called it the "curb hopper."). Instead of ABS brakes, we pumped the brakes as not to lock them up. Instead of a traction control program, we put 200 lbs. of sand in sand bags at the rear of the vehicle. We also had regular tires, none of the fancy winter tires.

The point here is that I could drive just fine. No "dog walkin'," no "donuts" (or whippin' a shitty as some may call it), no slow starts, no excessive acceleration and burning of da' rubba. Why is it then that a middle aged man driving a Chrysler 300C with winter tires, ABS brakes, and a traction control program cannot make it through an intersection in under 1 minute? (for those here that don't know, a 300C is a V8 powered rear wheel drive car) Forgive me if I am wrong, but if you grew up and learned to drive in the sixties and seventies, most of the cars on the road were equipped like the one I learned to drive in. So why is it so friggin' difficult now?!?

Like riding a bike, you never forget. If you cannot comprehend this and wish to continue driving a car like that, stay home when it snows.

The article basically discusses the continuous moral breakdown of our society as it(our society) continues to except sexually explicit images in the media. Whether it be on television, online, or.... now on your I-Pod?

Yeah, that's right, your I-Pod. With the development of portable video devices like the new I-Pod and the Sony PSP, downloading of explicit video is now that much easier, and more portable.

Now I question the moron who has pornography on his portable video device. Where are you going to use it dumbass? On the back of the bus? And risk indecent exposure? Is it really that hard for you to wait?!?

See though, that's just me. That's what I think of. Some weirdo with a portable video device viewing it in public and *AHEM* committing acts of lewd and lascivious behavior. Sorry, I guess my mind is just in the gutter.

Hagelin brings up a better point though. Apparently an article cited in her column says that 90% of children online will run into pornography sooner or later. Wow. 90%. That's a lot. When I was a kid, I think I saw a pornographic magazine once. I was maybe 11 or 12 at the time and it was a Playboy stolen from some kid's dad that was from the late seventies. The pages were pretty wrinkled by that time and I don't recall being able to see the images that well. Besides, porn from the late seventies in Playboy was nowhere near as hardcore as it is now on the world wide web. (Not that I am justifying children having access to pornography as long as it is a wrinkled Playboy magazine from the late seventies.... so don't go there.)

The point is that children are rather tech savvy, and this is a new way to put inappropriate material in their hands. Like that kid in grade school who showed me that 'rag, there will the same kid nowadays who will download the video and bring it in. You know the one I am talking about. He thinks he will move up the playground food chain if he brings it in. He is the one who turns into an anti social geek in high school and his face is covered in acne. That, of course, is all besides the most important part.

The most important part is the continued degradation of children's innocence. Parents out there in the blogosphere who happen to stumble across my blog somehow, I implore you to keep an eye on your children. Like Hagelin, I ask you to keep close eye to what they pay attention to. If you heed this advice, you will not have to worry about "prostitots" taking over. You will not have to worry about the study covered in the halfway through the article related to "frequent exposures to erotica*."

Go. Go and watch ye over your children. Save the future generations from what very well could become the future "Sodom and Gomorrah."

*On a separate note, this study is REALLY interesting. If true, and we continue down this path, the world will be a very interesting place to live when I am 60. ASSuming of course that I will reach 60.

BagMan Jimbo Probes Non Boardroom Oil Reps

I thought that BagMan Jimbo wanted to get money back from the ever profiting oil companies for ALL Wisconsin consumers who were "gouged" at the pumps. Keyword here is ALL.

According to today's story in the Urinal Sentinel, Doyle is seeking money for a heating fund. Apparently, now he just wants the "vampiristic blood sucking" oil companies to contribute money to a fund that helps families pay their heating bills over the winter. You see, WE Energies can't shut off your heat and power in the winter even if you don't pay your bills. So this fund is really a load of crap. Especially considering the story in the Urinal Sentinel this past week that has parents of unfortunate families canceling their power bills and starting new ones in their children's names. So who is left with the bill? WE Energies.

Whom are you a BagMan for now, Jimbo? Take the "AC" off of WEAC and you get what? "WE" energies. I wonder, does "WE" energies really mean BagMan Jimbo and WE Energies Execs? Evidently, BagMan Jimbo, you are stealing from the rich to give ultimately to the, rich? Yeah, makes too much sense to me.

We haven't gotten to the real point yet. You were supposed to get money for ALL Wisconsin consumers, not just the ones who pump their tanks at the gas station and can't pay their energy bills. This is assuming that they actually have cars and have filled their tanks with gasoline in the last 3 months.

I fill up once every week. 16 Gallons. Where is my check? Hmmm?

You stink, BagMan Jimbo. I don't even want a check. Confirming your slimeball status is enough for me.

Domestic Winners and Losers

So who, in my great and highly respected opinion, are the domestic winners and losers for the end of the 2005 model year? What a great question, if I should say so myself. It is pretty obvious, and if it isn't to you, aren't you lucky to have me around to explain it.

Loser #1 - GM. Simply put, GM is the biggest loser of the three hands down. With a product line that is still boring and basically unchanged, GM still doesn't have anything really exciting to bring to the table outside of the Z06 Corvette and the Pontiac Solstice (which, by the way, still isn't better than the MX-5 Miata).

In addition, they have not adhered to the plan of Value Pricing. Value Pricing was the plan announced in the midst of the Employee Pricing plan. The idea was to rid the line of any high incentives and price the vehicles with a true price. By doing this, GM could stabilize their products and the resale/market value of their products in the long run. Instead, GM announced mid November their "Red Tag" event. The "Red Tag" event allows the buyer to see the lowest price of the vehicle in the window of the car and takes out all the calculations. This particular price is well under the MSRP and not a list price like the Value Pricing program would be.

Too bad GM. You will be dethroned in the American market by Toyota inside of six months.

Loser #2 - FoMoCo. Although FoMoCo is not as bad off as GM, they too have problems that need to be fixed. Unlike GM, FoMoCo has a real hit on their hands with the new Ford Fusion/Mercury Milan/Lincoln Zephyr (all built off of the Mazda 6 platform, a successful car in it's own right). With new competitive product available on the market and finally getting rid of the Taurus line of cars, FoMoCo can move on and compete.

However, they too need to adapt a Value Pricing plan to stabilize their market/resale values and put themselves on the right track. Like GM, they have a "Keep it Simple" pricing plan similar to the "Red Tag" event. With this particular plan, they will also continue to jeopardize themselves by continuing to allow the customer to expect high incentives to buy product. If they can get away from this after January 3rd, they too will move in the right direction.

The only Domestic winner - DamChry. That's right, Daimler Chrysler. Besides having the most intriguing product line available amongst the three domestic manufacturers, they have not succumbed to high incentive selling. Well, at least not as much.

DamChry has introduced their "Miles of Freedom." This plan is not a discount pricing plan, but rather an extended bumper to bumper warranty, free maintenance, and two years of free gasoline. Although still an incentive, it will not have a detrimental effect on the market/resale pricing of their vehicles, a crucial step in the right direction. To me, DamChry is #1 of the big three. Maybe not in volume, but definitely in terms of common sense.

MSN has a nice article outling the big three's promotions here. I advise you check it out should you choose to purchase a domestic vehicle this season.

Slow Newsday, Eh Urinal Sentinel?

Would everyone in the room please raise your hands if you care about the young male audience glued to such shows as Fox's "The O.C." or MTV's "Laguna Beach?"

Yeah, that's kinda what I thought. NO ONE CARES!!! Why does the Urinal Sentinel then think that this particular story deserves front page coverage?!? Who, but the networks, give a rat's ass about the demographics of these ridiculous television shows?!? I know I don't.

One thing that I can for sure say about this is that my father would surely disapprove of the current students at Marquette University. I know for a fact that when he attended the University he wasn't worried about some pansy's life in Southern California. From the stories I recall, it was more like Hemi motors and the tavern he ran.

What happened to the Marquette University student base? Maybe, just maybe, this is why we haven't heard anything too outstanding from their athletic department...

World's Most Heinous Dog Dies of Heart Failure

Sad news, everyone. This past week the world's ugliest dog (pictured above), Sam, died of heart failure just shy of 15 years old. This dog is absolutely heinous. It looks like a big rat or a possum. The poor dog was taken in 6 years ago by a rescue worker who was clearly out of her mind. One thing is for sure, she (the rescue worker) may no longer have a dog that holds the 3 time World's ugliest dog title and she also won't have people staring at her as she walks the damned thing down the street.

Seriously, it is too bad that the United States no longer harbors the world's ugliest dog. As a country that is so diverse and appreciates the opportunity to be number one in every category, no longer being able to boast such a prestigious accolade the whole nation should be in mourning. Truly we have lost a hero. On the plus side, Hilary Clinton has announced her candidacy to sweep this award. Way to go Hil!

A quick note from the management here at DCS before I review some holiday reflections... To all readers: Thank you for your readership and patronage. Knowing that in the blogoshpere I have people who read my blog and give a hoot about what I have to say, I am thankful.

Okay, with that out of the way. After having read a post on Vaspers the Grate I remembered something. Vaspers eluded to Thanksgiving being a holy day, and it most certainly is. If we all remember correctly, our fore fathers set this holiday as a time to reflect and thank God (yes, I said God, and as you can plainly see God does have a capital "G" on the front of it). It was a time for us to be thankful to God (there it is again) for what He has given us. Truly I am thankful for where I am in my life. A more detailed list to follow:

1. For my mother and father who talk me everything I know about life.
2. For my natural talents and abilities which have afforded me the opportunities that I have been so fortunate to take advantage of.
3. For this blog, an avenue for all that is good, right, and conservative.
4. For the Miller brand of beers, Jameson Irish Whiskey, Captain Morgan's brand of spiced rum and Sapphire Gin.
5. For the thriving (although not at the moment) automotive industry.
6. For tomahawk cruise missiles.
7. For Smith & Wesson .357 magnum revolvers.
8. For my siblings who give me pleasant headaches.
9. For combustion engines, particularly the 350+ cubic inch varieties.
10. And, last but not least, women.

This list was compiled in a rather quick manner, and there are more things and people that I am certainly thankful for. If you have been missed, my deepest regrets go out to you.
