Milwaukee County "Circus" Court - Reserved for Schuh
Now it's gone too far. Whether or not Sheriff Clarke needs an airport sheriff deputy escort and personal home security provided by the department when he is out of town, you shouldn't bite the hand that feeds you.
For those of you who have not read the article in the Urinal Sentinel, I will gladly give you the gist of it. Deputy Schuh blasted Sheriff Clarke for using the department deputies as "personal security" (he is an elected official, and a lot of people do not like him by the way) in a recent union newsletter. Shortly thereafter, Deputy Schuh was busted down to "parade detail" from his current position as a courthouse bailiff. His "parade detail" consisted of "hoofing it" unescorted and sans squad car in a neighborhood of a questionable nature. Well, sounds like retaliation, right?? It is. Sheriff Clarke needs to exercise his rights as a position of authority in the department and demonstrate to other employees that insubordination will not be tolerated by any means. I agree with what he did whole heartedly.
Now, Deputy Schuh is filing a lawsuit against Sheriff Clarke and the department demanding his old position back, and of course, money. He is emotionally traumatized. Puhleeeaze. Should have seen this one coming from a county mile away. Schuh's lawyer states that Schuh was just exercising his right to free speech regarding political topics. Well, Schuh's comments in the union newsletter were hardly of any political nature, they were blatant attacks against Sheriff Clarke and Schuh knows it. This whole circus is outrageous and a waste of time. A 55 year old deputy of 18 years, and a Vietnam veteran, should know by now that you pay for your mistakes. If you play with matches, sooner or later you will get burned.

Heh.
Your argument that "retaliation" is a legitimate use of authority is undermined by Clarke's own "show-and-tell" walkabout in the same neighborhood.
It is obvious that Clarke is now trying to show everybody that his "program" is justifiable, and even the Sheriff himself should get into the act.
So now we go from a Sheriff who abuses his authority to a Sheriff who has no management perspective.
Of course, that's one and the same.
Like Jeff Wagner keeps saying: Just GET OUT of this, David.
Put the bailiff back into court, get your ass back in your office, and design a REAL program.
It may well work!
It's a friggin' dog and pony show. He's going out there with him to make it look like he gives a rat's ass! You know, press coverage??
But NOW it's time for the lawyer to step in because Schuh is a loud mouthed whiner. 'My feet hurt, I got sunburned too.'
It's all a joke. I guess this is just my take and opinion.
I don't believe Schuh is a whiner. He just took on the Sheriff. I suppose it is OK in your world that the boss can take cheap shots at the rank in file.
Schuh responded back and Clarke couldn't take it. Who is the Baby here. Clarke, because he has the power and authority to assign.
Schuh could of called in sick, taken stress leave or make up some illnes but chose to stick it out. He has been saying the right things which make Clarke look even more foolish.
I am kind of surpised by some the the conservative bloggers who haven't figured out its a battle between free speech. Should law enforcement officers give up there right to free speech if they are to up hold the law?
